The question is: Are you wearing the right pointe shoes?
First you must define the box. Let’s have a look to below attached picture: which one is your feet? According to your feet type you can get more accurate idea of the most suitable pointe shoe model for you.
Step 1 – Foot type
Each ballet pointe shoes producers makes pointe shoes with one of the three most important boxes:
- TAPERED
- SLIGHTLY TAPERED
- SQUARED
Step 2 – Define Vamp height
You need to consider the following features in order to define the vamp height:
- Toes length
- Arch flexibility
- Compressibility
- Foot width
Step 3 - Assess the length of your toes
Assess the length of the toes, in most cases:
- Small toes = short template
- Medium toes = you assess which one fits best
- Large toes = high template
Step 4 - Assess instep flexibility
A stiff, inflexible instep needs a lower template: one that is too high can make it difficult to lift at the toe. A moderately flexible arch allows for different height templates, depending on other aspects of the foot.
A very flexible instep should be supported with a longer template so that the foot does not move inside the shoe.
